Our Story
Idle Hands Fine Jewelry is the combined vision of Christopher and Norah O’Brien. The couple met while training at New Approach School for Jewelers and since their first conversations spoke about owning their own jewelry company together. Collaborating on jewelry design and creation is the realization of that dream. Their journey took them across the country, seeking knowledge, refining their skills, and immersing themselves in the art of fine jewelry. Now, they've returned to Nashville, ready to make their mark in the industry.
Each piece from Idle Hands is designed to evoke emotion, drawing inspiration from bold colors, striking imagery, and the fleeting beauty of the world around us. It is jewelry that makes you pause, appreciate, and connect with the moment. Rooted in impeccable craftsmanship, infused with a modern aesthetic, and paying homage to timeless design, every creation is an act of devotion to the craft.
Christopher O'Brien
Christopher was always a creative but found his home when he started working with metal and gemstones. Chris was classically trained at New Approach School for Jewelers, and further honed his skills studying with masters across the country. His expertise lies in crafting intricate, timeless heirlooms using both centuries-old techniques and modern technology. He has had the opportunity to train with Jeff Parke, as well as Sam Alfano and Todd Daniels at the GRS training center. Specializing in Hand Engraving, Goldsmithing, and Stone Setting, Chris merges traditional artistry with contemporary methods to produce stunning jewelry. Outside the studio, Chris enjoys spending time with his dog Lenny and cooking for his family.
Norah Tomarken O'Brien
Norah has explored many artistic mediums throughout her life, but it was her passion for fashion and gemstones that led her to the world of jewelry. In 2018, she took her first jewelry job in her hometown of Nashville, TN. After intensive training at New Approach in 2020, her journey took her to Milwaukee and Seattle, where she worked under master jewelers, constantly expanding her skillset. She has developed an eye for the intricate details that bring a piece to life. She is endlessly inspired by the way light dances across diamond and gemstone facets, as well as the rich textures of metal. After years of dedicating herself to the bench, Norah is thrilled to expand into the world of design and entrepreneurship, as she continues to create future artifacts.
